Changing your diet can help in preventing hemorrhoids; follow these tips for improved health.

Increase Fiber with Whole Grains

Increasing fiber can help relieve constipation and promote a healthier digestive tract.  Fiber intake can be done in a variety of ways.  Adding more whole grains to your daily diet will help increase fiber.

  • A great way to do add soluble fiber to your diet is by eating a bowl of oatmeal each morning for breakfast. Eating a bowl of oatmeal is a perfect way to begin the day.  If you do not like plain oatmeal, add different fresh fruits for more of a flavor.
  • When picking out bread from the supermarket, choose a whole grain variety.  The whole grain variety can be a type of whole wheat bread or a rye bread.  Many supermarkets also carry oatmeal bread which could also be a source of whole grain. Avoid white bread or breads that contained refined flours.
  • If you cannot add whole grains to your diet through food intake, you can take a fiber supplement.  The fiber supplement such as psyllium can help ease constipation.  Or you can even use ground flaxseed as a way to supplement your fiber intake.

Introducing fresh fruits and vegetables into your daily diet can help reduce the chances of getting hemorrhoids.  Fruits and vegetables can provide vital nutrients which can help promote an overall healthier immune system.

  • Berries are an excellent choice for your daily intake of fruit.  A serving of raspberries can help increase fiber intake.  While blueberries are an excellent source of vitamin E. Blueberries also have a higher concentration of anthocyanin which can help in promoting a healthier vascular system.
  • Other fresh fruits to include in your diet are oranges, apples bananas, peaches and pears. Papayas, figs and prunes are also an excellent choice to be considered. Prunes can actually help in preventing constipation; containing a mild colonic stimulant which helps in promoting bowel movements.
  • Green leafy vegetables should be incorporated into your daily diet to help promote overall digestive health.  Broccoli, kale and cabbage are rich in magnesium. Spinach is another choice to be considered.  Spinach actually helps cleanse the entire digestive tract.
  • Beets and okra are two other vegetable sources that can help prevent hemorrhoids.  Both are high in fiber which means the waste will move through the intestines at a healthy progress.

Keep hydrated to help ease and prevent hemorrhoid symptoms.  There are numerous ways of keeping yourself hydrated throughout the day. If your body lacks fluid, constipation can result which is one of the causes of hemorrhoids.

  • Drinking eight glasses or 64 fluid ounces of water a day is recommended. Water is the best way to keep hydrated especially if you experience constipation.
  • Drink 100-percent fruit and vegetable juices to help increase your fluid intake.
  • Teas especially herbal teas can be another source of fluid intake.
  • At the same time, reducing or totally eliminated intake of caffeinated drinks and alcohol is recommended as well as drinks that are high in sugar or fructose syrup.
  • On warm days, keeping hydrating can be done with all-fruit frozen bars. With all-fruit frozen bars, watch for the sugar content.

Exercise

Changing diet is only part of promoting overall good health to reduce the symptoms and prevention of hemorrhoids, exercising is also needed. Weight gain and obesity can be a contributing factor for getting hemorrhoids. Exercising even for small amounts of time each day will help promote bowel function and overall good health.
